"Contributed to alcohol abuse statistics"

TheOtherSideOfTheDoor

The rain poured down outside endlessly and slid off countless roofs. In the bar,the shuttered doors swung in the wind as patrons stared at their drinks but the air felt too heavy for them to reach the glass.

A bell rang and a disheveled man with a suit tattered beyond repair, grey hair and an askew fedora stumbled in like he was already drunk even before coming by.Drunk on something else other than alcohol maybe.

“Uhh..On-one glass of whisky.Neat.”

“Sure, comin’ right up!”Elliot tried to seem unconcerned, albeit unsuccessfully.

“God..I feel like shit.”

All the other people in the bar stayed silent, of course they did. They didnt know what to say.Two time flicked their tail and wrapped it around the leg of the oak stool they sat on,noob sat sipping their cocktail and dusekkar, shedletsky and builderman, already busy in fixing problems the other admins had to deal with for so long stared at the window. The muttering in the back drowned out the rest of Chance's words from the rest of the survivors.

“I can barely remember anything right now.Im not sure of any of my decisons..and I wish he were still here.He just disappeared that day..”

Elliot slid the glass over and he ran a finger on the clear glass and stared at the dim lights reflecting off the golden liquid inside.

“He just left. And I don't know why.My mind is so foggy.”

“Was it for the better? He would have been forced as my enemy anyways and..and I can’t bear to look at him without thinking of my blood spilling everywhere in that god forsaken realm..but its over, right?I should have forgotten.I forgot almost everything except this.”

The room was dead quiet except for the song of the wind outside the grimy windows and the creaking of the floorboards as the other people in the bar shuffled their feet. And so the light still flickers, swaying as it hung from the ceiling.

He heard an awkward shuffle, momentarily glacning up to see Elliot glance at the new customer that sat a few seats away from him."

“And when I wake up,I can still distantly hear a sweet melody I once knew, one that told me I was enough. One I longed for all my life.”

“When i find him again,I know exactly what i’d say to him.And id only wish for our days to be clear and to see the beauty of the world I knew a long time ago and to see the clouds, white and wispy, like it should have been.Isn’t this enough to live for?”

The bartender was at a loss for words.

“Well,uh-I-“

“Well, you made it out alive.Thats much more of a feat than you’d think.”

A pause. Elliot stayed silent.

"-You’re one lucky bastard,I’ll tell you that.”

Eyes turned to the unnoticed stranger that said that.A man in a expensive looking trench coat with a black suit and a familiar fedora. He was halfway out the door already when he said that, walking into the storm outside to miles of cobblestone paths with his coat flowing out behind him as the click of his leather shoes faded away.

Chance laughed at this statement.

“Hey,that reminds me of something someone used to say to me all the tim-“

And then he almost fell off his chair.

He ran through the doors and into the night after the stranger, leaving his still unfinished glass. It still had a few remnants of the warm drink inside. As the water splashed up under his feet,he looked around frantically for the figure, but he had seemingly melted into the night.

And in a table in the corner that no one sat at anymore,a single drop of water glinted like a star on top of its polished wood surface.
